The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has warned Malawians not to give money as bribes in an attempt to fast-track the processing of vehicle ownership transfers.

Speaking in Lilongwe during a visit to the Department of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS), ACB Acting Director General, Gabriel Chembezi, said some fraudsters are misleading the public by claiming they can speed up the process in exchange for money paid to supposed DRTSS and ACB officers.

Chembezi revealed that ACB officers recently observed an incident in which an individual paid K190,000 after being falsely told that the money would help their documents get approved more quickly at the ACB. He stressed that the ACB does not charge any fees to fast-track services and that all legitimate document reviews are completed within three days.

He further warned that the Bureau is taking strong action against such criminal activities, adding that all individuals found stealing from citizens through these schemes will be arrested and prosecuted.

The ACB has urged the public to report anyone demanding money to influence official processes, saying corruption not only delays services but also undermines public trust in government institutions.
