The Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) has assured members of the general public that it will soon obtain more arrest warrants for the remaining suspects of the Greenbelt Authority after execution of 11 warrants of Arrests it obtained during the first round of arrest.
The ACB said in the first round of arrests for Greenbelt Authority, they arrested Eric Dudley Chidzungu, Dr. Chisomo Kumbuyo, Linda Phiri, Synoden Kautsi and Chester Chikwere and from contractors, Innocent Kawinuwinu, Stanley Bakolo, Ephrone Mwenitete and Kenneth Khonje.
The Bureau said the arrested suspects have all been formally charged with various offences under the Corrupt Practices Act and the Penal Code and have been released on bail with the earliest trial scheduled for 27th February, 2026.
It said in addition to the prosecutions, the Bureau will commence civil asset forfeiture proceedings for various properties belonging to the defendants suspected to be proceeds of crime.
A total of K36.8 billion ear marked for mega farms in Malawi found📦 their way into the crooked pockets of individuals and part of it was used for funding MCP campaign meetings while on the ground, there are no mega farms forcing the citizens to be buying a bag of 50 Kilogram maize at K100,000 under the servant leadership of President Reverend Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his MCP led government.
The ACB has also informed the public that it has launched an investigation into 21 complaints of alleged corrupt practices at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services following a recent visit to the Department’s Regional Offices (Centre) by the Deputy Minister for Homeland Security Norman Paulosi Chisale which exposed entrenched corruption.
The Bureau said the complaints have revealed disturbing trends of Immigration officers and middlemen (Dobadobas) allegedly demanding bribes of as high as K500,000 to expedite passport processing despite the official passport processing fees ranging from K50,000 to K120,000.
In the statement, the ACB has expressed its grave concern that the culture of corruption appears to be well coordinated and tolerated in several government Departments which are supposed to serve the people of Malawi with dignity.
“The Bureau will ensure that these investigations are thorough and that those responsible for wrong doing are held accountable,” reads the statement in part signed by its Acting Director General Gabriel Chembezi dated 23rd January, 2026.
The Bureau has finally assured the general public that it will continue to work tirelessly to root out corruption syndicates in all Government Departments particularly those prone to corrupt activities in order to ensure transparency and accountability in the public service delivery
