The Ministry of Education has distributed 114 motorcycles, valued at approximately K1.5 billion, to education advisors across all councils in Malawi in a move aimed at improving school supervision and strengthening learning outcomes.

Minister of Education Bright Msaka said the initiative is designed to address long-standing transport challenges that education advisors face when visiting schools, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.

According to Msaka, the motorcycles will significantly improve efficiency by enabling advisors to visit up to three schools per day, a target that has often been difficult to achieve due to mobility constraints. He noted that increased supervision will directly contribute to improved teaching standards and overall academic performance.

The minister further urged the beneficiaries to use the motorcycles responsibly and strictly for official duties. He cautioned against misuse, including using them for commercial transport services or carrying unauthorized goods such as charcoal and other materials unrelated to their work.

One of the beneficiaries, education advisor Raphael Beleko from Mchinji, welcomed the development, saying the motorcycles will enhance their ability to conduct school inspections effectively. He assured the ministry that the equipment will be used for its intended purpose to improve education service delivery.
