Africa Region 5 Amateur Golf Challenge underway

Minister of Sports Uchizi Mkandawire has hailed Lilongwe Golf Club for hosting the ongoing 2023 Africa Region 5 Amateur Golf Challenge, a gesture signifying that golf is active in Malawi.

The minister made the remarks on Thursday when he presided over the opening of a flag raising ceremony at Lilongwe golf club where he reiterated government’s commitment towards growing the sport.

He observed that golf is among the sport associations that get subvention through Malawi National Council of Sports, adding that is the commitment government has towards promotion and development of various sports disciplines.

Vice President for African Golf Confederation, Martin Chikwana, hailed Malawi Golf Union for its commitment and ensuring that the objective of developing golf is achieved.

President of Malawi Golf Union, Gift Chidya Gondwe, said the union is well prepared to host the tournament.

The competing teams are from Eswatini, Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Malawi.
