An anonymous letter has called on the Ministry of Labour and immigration authorities to investigate the work permit status of Patience Matandiko, a Technical Officer at the International Labour Organisation, ILO, in Malawi.
The letter, dated 20th May 2026 and addressed to the Secretary for Labour, with copies to the Chief Immigration Officer, the Department of Immigration and the International Labour Organisation, raises concerns over Matandiko’s conduct and working relations with government officials and ILO partners.
“The authors allege that Matandiko has abused her position and oppressed fellow officers and partners, although the letter does not provide specific evidence to substantiate the allegations,” the letter reads.
The letter also calls for Matandiko and the coordinator of the Global Accelerator programme, identified as Mr Jailosi, to be removed from their respective roles, citing what the authors describe as concerns over the implementation of the programme.
The main request in the letter, however, is for authorities to verify whether Matandiko’s work permit is active, legally compliant and limited to her authorised scope of employment.
The authors have urged the Ministry of Labour and immigration authorities to conduct the necessary checks and take appropriate action if any irregularities are established.
The letter warns of unspecified further action if the concerns are not addressed, but does not detail what measures the authors intend to take.
The allegations contained in the anonymous letter have not been independently verified, and there is no indication in the letter of any findings by the Ministry of Labour, the Department of Immigration or the ILO regarding the issues raised.
