Christians urged to invest in pastoral training

Lecturers from Josophat Mwale Theological Institute (JMTI) at Nkhoma Synod in Lilongwe on Sunday challenged Christians to invest in pastoral training to shape the future of the Church of God.

The two lecturers, Rev Dr. Daniel Robins and Rev Dr. Maxwell Chiwoko gave the challenge to Kapita Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) congregants during the commemoration of JMTI which was established in 1993.

JMTI is an official theological seminary where pastors under CCAP Nkhoma Synod are trained in preparation for pastoral ministry and provides in-service training for serving ministers.

Speaking when he led the English service of worship under the theme, ‘King Jesus Mission,’ Rev Dr. Robins described the training of pastors as the most strategic and profound investment , noting that it shapes the future of the church.

“We have greater need for pastors than we can provide for them to build the kingdom of God. As such, it’s important that we train them,” said Robins.

In his remarks, Rev Dr. Chiwoko who is also JMTI Sports Evangelism Coordinator, urged the institute to utilize various opportunities in disseminating the gospel to people, who most times, fail to attend revival crusades.

Chiwoko also said JMTI lacks crucial resources which can help in the dissemination of the gospel.

“JMTI requires a van for outreach or evangelism programmes for student pastors as currently, the institution has an old pickup with frequent breakdowns.

Secondly, JMTI only has three working computers against 31 student families and dilapidated houses which are 100 years old and need renovation,” said Chiwoko.

Among the churches supporting JMTI include Kapita CCAP which supports two pastoral students at the institution and on Sunday, directed offerings made by Christians during two church services to JMTI.

Cementing on the same, Kapita CCAP Minister Rev. Easten Chisale appealed to well wishers to donate to JMTI by depositing into their JMTI National Bank of Malawi Account Number: 1004272858, Lilongwe, Gateway Current Account, Swift Code: NBMAMWMW00.
