COURT, LAWYERS HAIL WITNESS FOR BRAVERY IN UTM OFFICE ARSON CASE

The presiding judge in the UTM office arson case at the High Court in Lilongwe has praised Kondwani Sibale one of the witnesses in the case, for his courage in trying the save the Tambala family.

On Wednesday, the Lilongwe High Court moved to Area 24 where three State witnesses were cross-examined. One witness is the son of the late Tambala, while the other two are Kondwani Sibale and Joseph Patel.

When the court returned to its base in the city, Judge Anabel Mtalimanja concurred with the other lawyers that Sibale’s actions on that fateful day are worth a special recognition and appealed to authorities responsible for documenting and recognising such outstanding efforts to do the needful.

Sibale was coming from a night shift when he noticed that the UTM office was on fire.

He dared the fire, broke the office’s windows, and doors and managed to get the three members of the Tambala family out of the inferno and rushed them to the hospital with the help of a few friends.

The three members of the Tambala family later died at the hospital.

The case has since been adjourned to June 2022.
