DPP’s Convention rescheduled for September 2024

In a grand display of democratic fervor, the embattled opposition Democratic Progressive Party-DPP’ has extended date to hold its electoral convention that will unfold in September, 2024.

With the anticipation of the impending 2025 tripartite elections electrifying the political atmosphere, DPP’s Spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba has unveiled the party’s meticulous preparations for this momentous occasion.

In an elaborate proclamation, Namalomba elucidated that every position within the party hierarchy will be fiercely contested, promising a spectacle of ambition and aspiration that is sure to captivate the nation.

Early, DPP confirmed that it will have its convention on July 2024.

This development came following a court ruling extending its elective conference period.

Last year, the party’s National Governing Council-NGC meeting resolved to hold the convention on December 26-27.

Again, senior party member, Dr. George Chaponda was elected to oversee the convention whose budget was pegged at K300 million.

Chaponda said the funds would come from contestants’ fees, well-wishers and the party’s coffers.

All this was to comply to a court order that asked the party to hold a duly constituted elective conference within 90 days from September 29, 2023.

However, Justice Simeon Mdeza extended the convention period until a further order is granted after DPP’s National Director of Legal Affairs Charles Mhango applied for an extension.

The ruling further follows an application for an interlocutory injunction by ex DPP presidential advisors, Kondwani Nankhumwa and Cecilia Chazama for the court to
nullify resolutions of the party made on December 13 2023 in Mangochi.
