ESCOM To Increase Electricity Tariffs.

Energy regulator, Mera says it is reviewing a proposal by electricity supplier – ESCOM to increase electricity tariffs.
Escom is proposing a 99 percent hike of electricity tariffs citing increasing costs of production following the devaluation of the Malawi kwacha and the rising cost of living.

However – last year – MERA turned down a similar proposal by ESCOM following disagreements that arose between the energy supplier and the Power Market Limited.

Speaking to MIJ Online , Fittina Khonje – Public Relations Officer for MERA said the energy regulator is reviewing the proposal by Escom and will also engage the general public on the matter.
