Movement For Economic Revolution Wants Chakwera Impeachment

There are still voices of discontent on the Chizuma arrest inquiry as Mass Movement for Economic Revolution wants Parliament to conduct an independent investigation on the suspected degree of President Lazarus Chakwera’s involvement in the arrest of the Anti-Corruption Bureau boss, Martha Chizuma.

Vocal leader for the movement, Redson Munlo further suggests that Chakwera should be impeached if it is proven he knew of Chizuma’s arrest but simply chose to lie to the nation for his own reasons.

“Such petty games and lies point to absent and deficient leadership,” says Munlo in a statement.

But President Chakwera has instituted an inquiry to establish the truth behind the controversial and questionable arrest of Chizuma last Tuesday with civil rights groups trashing the move.

Meanwhile, Social Revolution Movement leader, Phunziro Mvula thinks this is the time for the citizens “to rise against this government through legally accepted protests.”

Wonders Mvula: “In 2019, we all rose against the DPP led government until we forced a rerun. Why are we failing to condemn the MCP government for doing the same things we hated the DPP for? We need to exact citizens arrests on all those corrupt government officials who are protected by the president himself,” says Mvula making reference to some ministers and senior public officers implicated in various suspected corruption scandals.

During the Anti-Corruption Day Commemorations in Kasungu on Friday, President Chakwera warned those perpetrating corruption: “If you think you are ready to kill to destroy the future of Malawi, we are ready to die to save the future of this country.”
