Outspoken and former embattled opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) National Governing Council (NGC) Executive Member, Kenneth Chatata Msonda has joined the ruling party, Malawi Congress Party-MCP.

Msonda has welcomed by the party leader who is also state president, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera at Mzuzu State Lodge.

In his remarks President Chakwera called on political figures to resist the spirit of malice and vengeance in order to succeed, adding that he holds no grudge nor ill will towards anybody.

Chakwera said he has welcomed Msonda and stated that he holds no grudge against anyone in the country, stresssing that his main goal is to transform the country as espoused in the Malawi Vision 2063.

He said the only way the country can make meaningful economic strides, is if it focuses on development for everybody, irrespective of affiliation.

Resonating Chakwera’s sentiments Msonda highlighted that he has joined the party because it’s leader has demonstrated impartiality and compassion for everyone, in his pursuit of a better Malawi for all.

Msonda said the incumbent Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is poised to emerge victorious in the 2025 Presidential Polls, stressing that his former DPP is very far from dislodging him.

He added that the infighting within DPP is no near dying out, adding that he has over the years tirelessly invested his energy to resolve the anarchy but chose to give up.

Msonda, who appeared jovial and in high spirits, described his move to join MCP as “back to my roots.”

“My mother was among the four women who were loved passionately by former president Hastings Kamuzu Banda,” he said.

“When I was in DPP, I have been telling them all these years to respect one State President at a time and that is one of the sins I committed necessitating my expulsion. The bible tells us clear the need to respect our leaders” he added.

Msonda thereafter showered his praises on President Chakwera, describing him as a man who was born with good morals, humility and has no aorta or vengeance in him.

“Your Excellency, you are the only President in history of this country who has visited all his Predecessors, you went to Page House (to cheer Peter Mutharika), you went to Domasi (to cheer Joyce Banda) and you went to cheer former President Bakili Muluzi at BCA Hill.”

Msonda promised to join forces with President Chakwera ahead of 2025 polls as well as to develop Malawi.

But early, Msonda told National online that he has no any plan of defecting MCP.

He hinted that his focus is to form a new political party alongside embattled leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa.

Msonda also said if he decided to join another party he would be just exercising his freedom of association and taking advantage of the “political transfer window” ahead of the next general elections.

He said: “I am not that cheap to join a political party without meeting the party president. You may wish to know that we are forming a new party with Hon Dr. KN. If there are those plans, hopes and suggestions from other quarters, let’s wait and see. Suffice to say those joining other political parties are not committing any political crime, it’s their Constitutional Right. If I form a new party with a fellow expelled DPP NGC member Hon Dr. KN, Leader of Opposition in Parliament and others or joining MCP, UTM, PP, UDF, AFORD etc, is that a crime?”
