Chilima leaves Malawi for Tanzania

The Vice President of Malawi, Dr Saulos Chilima, today has left the country for Tanzania where he is anticipated to attend the 60th Union Day of Tanganyika and Zanzibar slated for tomorrow 26th April up.

The event will take place at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The Celebrations are held annually to mark the creation of the United Republic of Tanzania when the Republic of Tanganyika and The Peoples Republic of Zanzibar exchanged articles of union on April 22, 1964, and became one state from April 26, 1964.

The Union was inaugurated by President, Julius Nyerere of Tanganyika and Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume, leader of the Revolutionary Government in Zanzibar.

President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to lead the commemorations.

Chilima will be back home on Saturday, the 27th. He is accompanied by the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda.
