Mwanyali Wins Mzuzu Half Marathon

Chikondi Mwanyali a 20-year-old athlete has beaten 70 other male athletes in the Mzuzu Half Marathon to win K1 million.

In the female category, Mzuzu-based Nalise Chirwa beat Asimenye Simwaka and 30 other girls to win this year’s competition.

Chikondi Mwanyali said the secret to his success is hardworking and is eyeing the International Marathon to put Malawi on the map.

“I am the current Junior Champion, the Cross Country Champion, and today I have just won the Half Marathon here in Mzuzu am looking forward to getting an opportunity to compete on the international stage and win,” said Mwanyali.

A total of 100 athletes from different parts of the country participated in the event.

Minister of Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire, who graced the occasion, said he was very impressed with the organisation of the event and said the event will return in Mzuzu at the appointed time.
