The Scorchers official sponsor National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc Thursday organised a ‘Thank you’ party for Scorchers supporters who are cheering on the team which will play in the finals against Cameroon on Sunday.
NBM plc Head of Corporate Banking Bernard Masi said they decided to host the supporters for being the ‘12th player’ on the pitch whenever the Scorchers are playing.
“As official sponsors of the Scorchers, it is our humble duty to express our appreciation to the supporters for the tremendous support accorded to the Scorchers. We are therefore here to encourage them further to support the team all their hearts and bring the cup home,” said Masi.
Others who attended the party include cabinet ministers, Shadreck Namalomba, Patricia Wiskes and Alfred Gangata, Malawi Students Union (MSU) in Morocco, and the Embassy of the Republic of Malawi in Morocco officials.
Speaking earlier Gangata thanked the supporters for cheering on the team for the whole 90 minutes in every much that the Scorchers has played in.
“Let us finish the work on Sunday by rallying behind our team as we have always done so that we should take the trophy home,” said Gangata.
Taking his turn, Namalomba also thanked the supporters for being the 12th player on the pitch.
“We have reached the WAFCON final and earned our place among the world’s elite at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The world knows the name Malawi. Let us rise this Sunday, act as the ultimate 12th player for the Scorchers, and make our nation count. Know that over 20 million hearts beat in rhythm with yours,” said Namalomba.
Wiskes also thanked the supporters and urged them to ‘do more than what you have done on Sunday so that we should take the trophy home’.
Probably Scorchers ‘Chief supporter’ Isaac Jomo Osman light up the party with the support slogans that he and the supporters sing during the matches.
“But our job is not done, come Sunday we should even raise our tempo and let the stadium know that Scorchers supporters are here and that will motivate our girls to with the match and write history and all of us will be part of this history,” said Osman, who is also Mayor for the City of Blantyre.
President of the Malawi Students Union in Morocco, Jamu Cosmos thanked NBM plc and the cabinet ministers for organising the party to show their appreciation for the support that they are giving the Scorchers.
“We also appreciate our Ambassador General Vincent Nundwe (retired) with all entire staff of the Malawi embassy here in Morocco for the support in terms of logistics for the supporters especially the students community and we promise that we will continue supporting the Scorchers so that come Sunday we should be part of our beautiful history,” said Cosmos
