Parliament Goes To People

Speaker of Malawi Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has advised Malawian’s to judge their Member of Parliament based on their constitution mandates.

Hara made the remarks Tuesday in Mchinji district during the official launch of two year EU funded project called Phungu Wanga.

The Phungu Wanga project is aimed at civic educate the constituents on the role of an MP for them to know if the MP is performing according to the required constitutional mandate.

Hara expressed concerns that people change MPs based on issues that the MP is not expected of thereby putting the constituency at risk of losing developments.

Mchinji North MP, Rachel Zulu says the communities do not differentiate charitable work and the main roles of the MP and welcomed the project so that the MP is judged by what is expected of them.

EU Ambassador to Malawi Rune Skinnebach and Save the Children country director Ashebir Debebe says the main aim of project is to see MPs performing based on what they can to improve social economic development of them constituency,.

Phungu wanga, My MP project will run from 01 January 2024 to June 2026.
