Silver stumble as Bullets register first win

Silver Strikers’ perfect winning start to the 2024 season came to an end at Dedza Stadium after drawing Dedza Dynamos 1-1.

The Central Bankers had fallen behind first in the contest when Victor Lungu scored in the 39 minute but drew level in the 75 minute courtesy of substitute Charles Chipala who struck from a Binwell Katinji pass.

Prior to the draw Silver had won it’s first two game against Chitipa United (2-0) and Bangwe All Stars (3-1).

Dynamos have been tough team to deal with at Dedza Stadium. A couple of weeks ago FCB Nyasa Big Bullets also stumbled drawing 1-1 in it’s first league game of the 2024 season.

At Karonga Stadium, Bullets registered their first win of the new season with 3-0 victory over Chitipa United.

Babatunde Adepoju opened the score sheet just after 23 minute.

Substitute Ephraim Kondowe who had replaced Babatunde made it 2-0 in the 75 minute. Then in the 81 minute Patrick Mwaungulu put the game beyond the hosts.

“We struggled in the first half as we did not play the way we wanted. Even the goal they scored we shouldn’t have conceded. We could have defended well. But we reacted and responded well in the second half and managed to level. I think a point is deserved. Credit to Chipala he played well and helped the team,” said Mponda in a post match interview.

Dynamos coach Andrew Bunya believe they deserved to win and expressed disappointment at the draw.

“It’s a painful loss. We did well and deserved to win but we did succumb to momentary pressure from Silver Strikers midway second half for about 10 minutes. They got level. It’s painful we wanted the three points,” he said.

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers are topping the table on seven points same as Silver but have superior goal difference. Moyale Barracks are third with 6 points.

Bullets are in the sixth place on 5 points.

In other games today, Mighty Tigers 1 Mzuzu City Hammers 0, Bangwe All Stars 1 Karonga United 1.
