CHILEKA, Malawi — Thousands of mourners from different walks of life have gathered at the residence of Nanjaiko in M’banda Village, Chileka, to pay their final respects to the late Brian Banda.

The funeral service has brought together family members, friends, community leaders, government officials and political figures, reflecting the wide network of people who knew and worked with Banda during his lifetime.

Among the notable figures attending the funeral are Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralization Joseph Mathyola Mwanamvekha, Minister of Gender Mary Navitcha, and Secretary to the President and Cabinet (OPC) Justin Saidi.

The large turnout has turned the funeral into a significant gathering in Chileka, with mourners travelling from different areas to stand with Banda’s family during the difficult period.

Brian Banda Dies at Mwaiwathu Hospital

Banda died in the early hours of Saturday, August 7, 2026, at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre, according to information from his family and those close to him.

His death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from relatives, friends, colleagues and members of the wider community.

Mourners have described the funeral gathering as an opportunity to honour Banda’s life, reflect on his contribution to those around him and provide comfort to his bereaved family.
