The body of former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General Brian Banda has been laid to rest at M’banda Village in Chileka, Blantyre, with government officials, politicians, media practitioners, religious leaders and members of the public gathering to bid farewell to the veteran broadcaster.

In a eulogy delivered on behalf of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi said the President was deeply touched by Banda’s death.

Saidi said Mutharika regarded Banda’s death as a loss not only to his family and friends but also to the country, particularly the media fraternity.

According to Saidi, Banda was a talented individual whose work helped shape Malawi’s media industry during his career.

The eulogy highlighted Banda’s contribution to broadcasting and his role in the development of the country’s media landscape.

The funeral brought together people from different political parties and sections of society, reflecting the impact Banda had beyond his professional work.

Members of opposition political parties also attended the funeral, alongside managers and representatives from various media houses.

Religious leaders, family members, friends and mourners from the community also gathered at M’banda Village to pay their final respects to the former MBC Director General.

Banda is survived by his wife and six children.
