Police Pounce Ahmed Mohammed Chunara

Police in Lilongwe have arrested Ahmed Mohammed Chunara in connection with the K5 billion cementgate case. He is the fifth suspect to be detained in the matter, which involves allegations of using former president Peter Mutharika’s TPIN to import cement duty-free.

The other suspects are businessperson Mahmed Chunara, Norman Chisale, Peter Mukhito and Roza Mbilizi. Their arrest came a day before they were expected to appear in court for plea taking.

Impeccable sources at both National Police headquarters and office of Director of Public Prosecutions ( DPP) have confirmed

Chunara becomes the fifth suspect to be arrested in connection with the case.Others are businessperson Mahmed Chunara, former president Peter Mutharika’s bodyguard Norman Chisale, former director of State residences Peter Mukhito and Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) deputy commissioner general Roza Mbilizi.

The arrest comes a day before the suspects are expected to appear in court for plea taking.

The five are accused of abusing former president Peter Mutharika’s tax payer identification number (TPIN) to import cement worth K5 billion duty-free.
