PETRA, one of the Tonse Alliance partners says it views as premature for the country including the leadership to be drawn into talk about the next elections.
The remarks have been made by Kamuzu Chibambo, President for PETRA who says they want President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Saulos Chilima not to be involved in the talk about the next polls, describing such involvement as not relevant at this time.
According to Chiwambo, what is crucial now for the leadership to do is to address woes that people in the country are facing.
He has cited some top promises like job creation more especially among the youth, as appropriate spaces that the leadership needs to be filling due to the current state of affairs.
” We don’t want our leadership to be involved in this kind of frenzy now. It is premature and we should as a nation focus on economic recovery.” said Chiwambo.
In the last few weeks, there have been rife reports about the next elections within the Tonse leadership with some MCP officials publicly saying they will rally behind Chakwera as the next candidate.
