Chiefs In Nsanje Wants An Audience With Chakwera

NSANJE CHIEFS WANT TO MEET AND THANK CHAKWERA

Chiefs in Nsanje have requested an audience with President Dr Lazarus Chakwera to thank him for facilitating the completion of the Marka-Bangula railway line project.

The request has been presented at an extraordinary full council meeting in Nsanje convened to welcome the contractor of the Marka-Bangula railway construction project, CR20.

Council Chairperson, Councillor Rose Makiyi, welcomed the contractor and asked for professional delivery of the project.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Hastings Chiudzu, urged councillors, Members of Parliament and chiefs to support the contractor to ensure the construction works were complete within the scheduled 18 months.

Under the K68.8 billion project, the contractor will construct the rail line and houses for workers as well state of the art depots.

However, Child urged chiefs to tell their subjects who constructed houses in the passage rail line to move out immediately as there will be no compensation based on the Railway Act of 1907.

Senior Chief Malemia in his contribution said the project is well received, however, asked the government to ensure the majority of the workers should come from Nsanje District.

Senior Chief Tengani has since applauded the government for fulfilling its promise of constructing the railway and the Nsanje Marka road. He said the two projects will transform the socio-economic status of Nsanje.

Councillor Boniface Chimpokosera taking his turn commended President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for fulfilling the construction of the railway project.

Meanwhile, the council meeting has ended with chiefs requesting a meeting with President Dr Lazarus Chakwera to thank him for the railway line project and the Nsanje-Marka road.
