Malawians have been urged to go for Diabetes tests periodically saying many people do not know their status until it is too late.
Chairperson for the Diabetes Association of Malawi, Clement Mandala, made the appeal in Kasungu during this year’s World Diabetes Day commemorations.
Mandala said it is disheartening that many people in the country do not go for medical checkups until they are critically ill.
“Many Malawians do not like going to the hospital but I want to urge people to go to the hospital several times in a year to check their sugar levels,” added Mandala.
Currently, his organisation has intensified awareness activities through committees which are found in most hospitals and health centres across the country.
