The board of the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) has suspended its Chief Executive Officer Brenda Kayongo over suspected negligence in the missing 7, 500 bags of maize in August last year.

NFRA Board Chairperson, Dennis Kalekeni, has confirmed the development adding this is to pave way for investigations on the matter.

A total of 13 trucks that carried maize from the Northern Region, went missing while in transit. The maize was procured by ADMARC and it was worth K113 million.

The owner of Kachere Agriculture Trading, whose trucks carried the maize, was arrested and is currently on bail, according to Kalekeni.

Kayongo becomes the second official of NFRA to be suspended over the missing maize after the Acting Director of Operations, Symon Banda, last month.
