The Malawi Government has released K5 billion to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) to support the ongoing repatriation of Malawians fleeing xenophobic violence in South Africa.

DoDMA Commissioner Wilson Moleni said the funds, provided by the Ministry of Finance, will help facilitate the safe return of thousands of Malawians who have been displaced by the unrest.Vice President Ansah Visits DODMA to Review Disaster Management Operations

According to Moleni, approximately 21,000 Malawians have already returned home through the government-led repatriation programme, while many more remain stranded in South Africa awaiting transportation back to Malawi.

Moleni appealed to Malawians who have the financial means to return home independently to do so, saying this would allow the government to prioritize support for the most vulnerable citizens who cannot afford the journey.

He also called on individuals, organisations and development partners to contribute towards the repatriation effort to ensure that every stranded Malawian is safely brought back home.FCB gives DoDMA K150 million for Malawians’ repatriation from RSA
