AIP beneficiaries in Kasungu waiting fir fertilizer
Media reports are indicating that Affordable Input Programme [AIP] beneficiaries surrounding Chitawo fertilizer depot in Ntchisi district after waiting for so long to access the commodity broke into the warehouse where they went away with bags of fertilizer to their respective homes.
An eye witness Mr. John Moyo said the fertilizer arrived at Chitawo Depot on 2nd January, 2023 and has been lying in the shade close to three weeks for the reasons best explained by officials of Smallholder manning Chitawo centre.
Moyo said the beneficiaries after noting that justice is not served and following disagreements between the village heads and depot committee, they broke into the warehouse through the door emptying all the bags which were in the shade.
District Police Public Relations Officer Yohane Tasowana, said police in the district have instituted an investigation and very soon, they will be arresting those that have taken the law onto their hands.
Tasowana said 173 bags of NPK fertilizer were stolen, saying the police have managed to recover 80 bags which were hidden in the bushes and are still on the ground to recover the remaining ones.
Commander in Chief of Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party [MRP] Bantu Saunders Jumah, said the beneficiaries have taken back what Government through its agents have been going village by village collecting the K30,000s with a promise to give them fertilizer at a later date.
Jumah said the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the arrest of Martha Chizuma has now come to an open answering a question as to why Chizuma was arrested saying instead of arresting criminals that were sent to Chizuma’s house, the Commission has found her wrong.
….’’President Chakwera is finding the best time to fire Chizuma from her office, she forgave her due to pressure from the citizens and the international community,’’….he said.
Meanwhile, the five-day ultimatum which Leader of Opposition in Parliament Rt. Hon. Dr. Kondwani Nankhumwa MP gave President Chakwera to pay back money amounting to K30,000s they have been collecting from farmers, have elapsed on Friday, 27th January, 2023 with no response.
Nankhumwa warned the government that if this not to happen, he has no choice but to seek guidance on the way forward from legal and governance institutions including the Malawi Law Society [MLS], MHRC, Malawi Legal Aid and the office of the Ombudsman.
