Mzuzu Central Hospital says the public should not panic following a leaked internal memo that is circulating on social media notifying staff members of the hospital of some five patients admitted to the hospital that are presenting strange symptoms.
The spokesperson for the hospital, Dr Arnold Kayira, said that at the moment no confirmed Marburg Virus case is being treated at the hospital. He added that the five patients have presented a variety of symptoms pointing to various conditions including Marburg.
Dr Kayira said the leaked memo was meant to notify members of staff about the five cases and was not meant for the public.
“The five cases are being treated in an isolation unit and are responding well to treatment,” said Dr Kayira adding that samples are being handled by the Public Health Institute of Malawi PHIM and have been sent to South Africa for testing.
