Authorities at the Malawi Consulate in Tete, Mozambique on Sunday intercepted two buses carrying 55 and 65 passengers from Lilongwe on their way to South Africa for carrying illegal passengers.

According to Malawi Consul General in Tete Mozambique, Happy Saka, a total of 34 passengers have been sent back to Malawi because they had no travel documents.

Saka ssid they got a tip from Mozambican security agents who are working very closely with his office that the two buses were travelling from Malawi to South Africa with illegal passengers on board.

According to Saka, the consulate, with the help of Mozambican Police, mounted a roadblock at Zambezi River and managed to intercept the buses.

Sakah said when he consulted Malawi Immigration Director General, Brigadier General Charles Kalumo, he was advised to hand over the illegal immigrants to Mozambican Police and Mozambican Immigration to facilitate their travel arrangements back to Malawi.

According to Saka, the illegal passengers have told his office that they pay money in form of bribes to illegally exit and evade the eye of the Immigration Office and the Police in Malaw
