Construction of two lecturer theatres at Magomero Community Development College in Chiradzulu is yet to be finalised nearly five years after construction works began.
Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza, expressed concern about the slow progress registered by the contractor. However, the contractor said the project delays are attributed to challenges in funding.
Construction works for the two lecturer theatres started in 2018.
The issue came to light after Sendeza visited the college.
“The contractor should expedite the construction works,” said Sendeza.
Meanwhile, the Principal of the College, Thokozani Mtampaonga, said lack of enough teaching space is leading to congestion challenges at the facility.
The total cost for the project was pegged at K389 million.
Magomero Community Development College is one of the oldest government institutions in the country. It started its operations in 1963. Among others, the college trains personnel in Social work and Community Development.
