An Urgent Call for Change: Addressing Political Violence and the Need for True Unity in Malawi– Jumbe

By Comrade Imraan Jumbe

To be in power is not a license to ignore the laws that govern us. Power does not exempt any party from respecting the foundational principles of our Constitution.

It is a great disservice to Malawians when political violence is permitted, or even indirectly encouraged, as a tool to silence opponents.

Those who break laws or encourage violence, while pretending to hold the reins of peace and stability, are undermining the very fabric of our nation.

As an African proverb wisely reminds us, “A man who uses force is afraid of reason.”

True leaders listen to the voice of the people and govern through service, not through intimidation.

When roadblocks and violence become the tool to instill fear to political opponents its a clear sign that our democracy Is crumbling stone by stone.

We do not want a mafia-style system of governance in Malawi, where might makes right and those in power operate above the law.

Such systems breed fear and division, rather than unity and progress.

It is because of such abuses that I, Comrade Imraan Jumbe, am stepping forward to contest the presidency of the Republic of Malawi.

I see a nation where leaders treat citizens as one people, regardless of political affiliation, and where our diverse views only make us stronger.

We must move away from a leadership that only seeks to protect its own while treating others as half-citizens.

One cannot have peace and justice in a house divided, as another proverb warns, “When two elephants fight, it is the grass which suffers,

We say enough is enough. The call for peaceful politics cannot fall on deaf ears. When the people are peaceful and united, no force can stop the tide of progress. To MCP and to every Malawian leader, let this be a time for reflection. To be entrusted with leadership is to be entrusted with the hearts and futures of millions, and to act otherwise is to betray that trust.

In the words of an ancient proverb, “The ruin of a nation begins in the homes of its people.” Let us ensure that our homes, communities, and political gatherings are places of peace and inclusion. The strength of Malawi does not lie in the power of any one party; it lies in the unity of its people.

Conclusion: A Vision for Malawi’s Future

As we look to the future, let us envision a Malawi where political rivalry is rooted in ideas and respectful debate, not in violence and fear. Let us strive for a system where every Malawian, regardless of their political leaning, feels safe, valued, and heard. Our duty as leaders and citizens is to make sure that Malawi does not succumb to a legacy of violence and division. Instead, let us work together for a legacy of unity, accountability, and a government that serves all people equally.

My pledge, as I stand here today, is to lead Malawi with integrity, to protect the rights of all Malawians, and to ensure that our beautiful nation moves forward on a path of true democracy, respect, and peace.

Together, we can build a nation where justice prevails, where the rule of law is respected, and where every Malawian is given a fair and equal place in our beloved country.

Together we can.
