Governance advocate, Concerned Citizens of Malawi has urged President Lazarus Chakwera to immediately dismiss Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda and Secretary to the Treasury Prof. Betchani Tcheleni, for allegedly failing to address the country’s economic crisis.

In a letter, team leader for the organization, Edward Kambanje, highlighted the country’s alarming economic decline marked by unprecedented inflation, fuel shortages, and skyrocketing living costs.

Kambanje attributed these challenges to what he described as Banda’s inexperience and limited connections outside the Ministry.

Kambanje also criticized Prof. Tcheleni’s lack of meaningful action, stating his social media commentary has not translated into tangible economic solutions.

Meanwhile, the grouping has given President Chakwera a two-week ultimatum to effect the changes, warning of a peaceful vigil at Capital Hill if ignored.

However our efforts to hear from Banda and Tchereni were abortive as our phone calls went unanswered.
