Fire destroys Rejoice Elementary Private School in Liwonde, Machinga

A fire broke out at Rejoice Elementary, a private school in Liwonde, Machinga, earlier today, but fortunately, all students were unharmed, according to Liwonde Police spokesperson Ngwashape Msume.

Msume reported that the fire started around midday, causing significant damage to the school’s property. Items destroyed include 67 roofing sheets, 1,350 kilograms of maize, 35 plastic chairs, and various other goods whose total value is yet to be determined.

Police in Machinga are currently investigating the cause of the fire, with no confirmed findings at this time.

Meanwhile, the police have advised the public to avoid activities that could lead to fire hazards and to report any suspicious occurrences promptly. Authorities stressed the importance of vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This fire has interrupted learning at Rejoice Elementary, and the community hopes for swift assistance to help the school resume its operations and ensure students can continue their education without further delays.
