As thousands of desperate Malawians continue streaming back home after anti-immigrant violence in South Africa, Victoria Forex Foundation has stepped forward with a K50 million donation to strengthen the government’s humanitarian response.

The contribution, made through the charity arm of Victoria Forex Bureau, was handed over to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) in Blantyre on Tuesday, providing a significant boost to ongoing efforts to transport, feed and care for returning citizens.Maranatha Academy Delays Top Students’ Victoria Falls Trip Due to Forex Shortage

Presenting the donation, Victoria Forex Foundation Marketing Manager Yamikani Amasi Chitulo said the organisation felt a moral responsibility to assist because many Malawians living and working in South Africa rely on Victoria Forex Bureau for financial transactions.

“We are committed to supporting the Malawi Government in providing timely humanitarian assistance to fellow Malawians during times of need,” said Chitulo.

Receiving the donation, Dodma Commissioner Wilson Moleni described the gesture as timely, saying the cost of repatriating thousands of Malawians has placed enormous pressure on government resources.Care Malawi donates 3 vehicles to DoDMA

“We are receiving this donation from Victoria Forex Bureau with immense appreciation. It is very expensive to bring people from South Africa. Transportation, food and medical care require substantial resources, and this support will help reduce the funding gap we are facing,” Moleni said.

The donation comes as Malawi continues to receive thousands of returnees escaping anti-immigrant attacks in South Africa.

According to Dodma, 41,976 Malawians had safely returned through Mwanza Border Post by Saturday. The returnees include more than 400 expectant women and 2,497 children, all transported home aboard 628 buses.Malawi Repatriates 6,936 Citizens from South Africa

Government has appealed to companies, development partners, organisations and well-wishers to continue supporting the humanitarian operation, warning that the needs remain enormous as more Malawians are expected to return.

Victoria Forex Foundation’s contribution adds to a growing list of donations from corporate institutions and individuals responding to the national appeal, highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration in providing relief to vulnerable citizens displaced by the crisis in South Africa.
