Human Rights Advocator Sir Charles Ben Longwe, says Malawi has politicians who have caused a big damage for the country, they are playing their innocence pretending not to have done anything wrong and are clean championing to fix the same country they destroyed.
Ben Longwe has claimed that for the past 4 years, Tonse Alliance which was a composition of nine political parties and a Movement, did a lot of damages to the country clapping hands at nonsense only seeing the people sailing through pain and sufferings without listening to their cries.
He said, these people started walking out of the MCP-UTM Alliance one by one for the MCP to be running government alone, saying these people are outside planning to form an alliance against the very same government they were in before.
Speaking from his Hard- knocks University, Ben Longwe said Madam Dr. Joyce Banda, Enock Chihana, Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo, and others, were part of the people in the Tonse Alliance even holding ministerial positions and have contributed a lot for the country’s mess it is today.
Ben Longwe said for 4 years they were in government, they were part of the people that led to the devaluation of the Kwacha by 44 percent and said nothing because they were enjoying the fruits of being in government.
He said Malawians have struggled a lot following the devaluation of the local currency making prices of essential goods and services skyrocketing at nobody’s care, all were silent because they joined the Alliance not to serve the people but themselves.
The advocator said even today, President Chakwera cannot explain why the country is in a mess but continuing blaming the DPP and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for creating a big mess taking himself out for not causing the damages.
He said beside blaming the DPP for the country’s mess, during the reign of Professor Mutharika, there was stability of the economy, the country’s debts were at K3,16 trillion, maize was readily available and affordable and repaying the loans, Malawi has to sale some of its resources like Lake Malawi and mountains for minerals.
“We are a careless people, we did the damage for the country and we are pretending to be clean promising to build the same country we destroyed,” said Ben Longwe.
He said the only people that stood firmly without damaging the country in the past 5 years were Professor Mutharika and Atupele Muluzi observing that these two have struggled to keep their parties strong and not divided.
He has advised Malawians to separate the two from the rest that have destroyed the country out of greedy, selfishness and self-centeredness saying these greedy politicians are pretending to have wishes of fixing the country against the very same government they served.
Ben Longwe said it is only these two parties DPP and UDF that can talk about fixing the country’s mess and not the others who are pretending to be clean and want to fix the country after they failed to fix it for 4 years in government.
