Some land developers in Mzuzu have threatened to take legal action against officials from the Department of Lands, who they accuse of allocating pieces of land meant for a car park to themselves, thereby blocking access to their plots.
Vincent Matupi, one of the affected land developers, expressed frustration at the situation.
“It’s unacceptable that public officials entrusted with land management are creating unnecessary disputes over properly demarcated pieces of land,” Matupi said.

Senior Lands official, Anthony Mzima is allegedly the main beneficiary of the disputed land in Area 3 of Mzuzu City using it for commercial concrete blocks manufacturing.
However, when approached for comment, Mzimba was uncooperative and claimed he couldn’t remember the year he acquired the land.
“I got that piece of land a long time ago, but I honestly can’t recall the year,” Mzima said.
Efforts to reach the Ministry of Lands spokesperson, Enoch Chingoni, for comment were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was unreachable.
