It is very disheartening and painful that on Monday, 10th June, 2024 the country lost the Vice President Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima in a tragic plane crash in the Chikangawa forest, his death alongside with eight others, raised millions of questions than answers.
There were statements from President Chakwera, MDF Commander and Government spokesperson Moses Kunkuyu regarding the plane crash which later was proved to be not true following a preliminary German report that the plane never reached Mzuzu.
The Government of Malawi under President Chakwera instructed the police to go around the country arresting all those who were insinuating that the plane was shot down or some others, forced the plane to crush.
Some notable people in the names of Kamlepo Kalua, Reverend Gondwe of Mzuzu-Livingstonia CCAP Synod, Pastor Moses Shumba and Bon Kalindo were arrested, appeared in court and are moving with court bails in their pockets.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera instituted a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the plane crash and to close the matter but the findings as in the report faulted the people flying the plane as causing their death, a move which Malawians received it as not true.
During the launch of SKC Foundation in Lilongwe, the widow to the departed Vice President Dr. Saulosi Chilima, Mary Chilima expressed her feelings that she was not satisfied with the conclusion of the Commission of Inquiry investigating circumstances surrounding the death of her beloved husband.
President and Commander in Chief of Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) Bantu Saunders Jumah speaking through his Revolutionary voice said Malawi needs an overhaul revolution so that one must see a shining and clean people at the State House running a clean government.
Jumah said President Chakwera when he delivered his SONA in Parliament on 14th February, 2025 came with the very same statement as that of Mrs. Mary Chilima that even him, is not satisfied with the findings of the commission of inquiry on Dr. Chilima’s tragic death and he is only expecting God to come with the answers.
He has questioned President Chakwera what was the point of instituting a commission of inquiry lamenting that many people are holding court bails in their pockets for the very same reasons, not satisfied?
’’There is something wrong with President Chakwera or his subordinates, ever since he was voted to power in June, 2020, all of his directives have not worked and have been turned down, something Is wrong,” said Jumah.
And Political activist Bon Kalindo said the commission of inquiry instituted by President Chakwera hit the blank war because many people were afraid of being arrested by police praying that even if it can take 100 years of the MCP in power, justice on Dr. Chilima’s death will come out and those responsible will face the long arm of the law.
“MCP has taken Malawians for granted, they are doing everything possible for Malawians to forget about Chilima’s tragic death ahead of the 16th September, 2025 elections but his spirit is not resting in the mind of the people,” said Kalindo.
