President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is in Mzuzu where on the 3rd of March, 2025 he will lead the nation to honour the fallen heroes in Nkhatabay- those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and Independence in 1964 and on the 4th March, 2025 he will take his SONA to the youth of Mzuzu City.
Hundreds of people including the MCP’s 1ST Vice President Catherine Gotani-Hara welcomed President Chakwera at the Mzuzu Roundabout decorated with MCP cloth proving to the world that MCP is alive and kicking in the Northern Region of Malawi.
Two Karonga based rights activists Comrades Lytone Mangochi and Steven Simsokwe have asked President Chakwera to take advantage of his visit to the northern region to outlining development projects he has implemented in the 5 years he has been in power.
Mangochi, a vendor at Karonga market and Simsokwe, former MCP Councilor for Chilanga Ward in Karonga have reminded President Chakwera to fulfill his long time promises of building Orton Chirwa International Airport and Mombera University to prove himself that he is not a liar.
The two, said the people of the northern region of Malawi are anxiously waiting to hear from Chakwera’s mouth on the progress of these projects for him to live a mark that his dream of developing the north, was true and not lies.
They said the SONA itself has exposed completed projects in the northern region of Malawi on paper while they are not existing on the ground advising President Chakwera to revisit his SONA and outline which projects have really completed in the northern region of Malawi.
Mangochi and Simsokwe have challenged President Chakwera to prove them wrong that the projects he outlined to have been completed in Karonga are true advising President Chakwera not to take the Karonga people for granted as recipients of lies.
“Karonga people are tired of being promised lies, President Chakwera has implemented zero projects in Karonga and the northern region and if there are completed projects, are signposts,” said Mangochi.
The two activists have claimed that Chakwera’s Minister of Transport Jacob Hara is a shame among the people of the north claiming that he has no eyes to see drifts and drifts along the Karonga –Chiweta Road but only telling President Chakwera lies that the road project is complete for motorists use.
Mangochi and Simsokwe said people of the northern region of Malawi are waiting for action from Malawi Police Service (MPS) to prove that they are not MCP Police by arresting MCP thugs who ambushed Enock Chihana’s vehicle and deflated vehicle tyres for opposition MPs inside the Parliament premises in Lilongwe.
They have described the ones sponsoring these thugs to kill opposition leaders in the country as savages sending savages to terrorizing. Intimidating and threatening innocent people to join “Boma ndilomweli silikuchoka” by force.
