A group of students from Mapingo Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Thyolo on Monday stormed the district council offices, demanding the immediate transfer of their headteacher over what they describe as unfair examination fees.
The learners allege that the school administration is forcing Form One and Form Three students to pay K12,000 for terminal exams in addition to regular school fees — a practice they say is not happening in neighboring schools.
“We are already paying school fees. Why are they demanding more money from us?” one student questioned, expressing frustration over what they believe is an unjustified charge.

In response, Thyolo District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga acknowledged the students’ concerns and assured them that the matter would be referred to the Shire Highlands Education Division for proper review and action.
The situation remains tense as students await further communication from education authorities.
