By Suleman Chitera, Lilongwe, Malawi

President Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his commitment to continue building Malawi’s future, asking Malawians to give him a second term to finish what he started.

Speaking after submitting his nomination papers at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Chakwera admitted the past five years have not been easy but emphasized that he has laid a strong foundation for national development.

“These past five years, our country has gone through challenges that even I did not anticipate. But I have laid the groundwork — and now the nsima of development is ready to be served,” said Chakwera confidently.

He acknowledged the ongoing struggles Malawians are facing, especially with the rising cost of living, but maintained that his vision has always been to lift people out of poverty and hunger. He believes that vision is still within reach if he is granted a fresh mandate.

“Our country is like a family that has endured hardship over the past five years,” he said, showing both empathy and determination.

Chakwera also highlighted his partnership with Vitumbiko Mumba, saying it symbolizes a renewed commitment to serve the nation with unity and purpose.

“Allow us to serve you the nsima of development that is now ready — Vitumbiko Mumba and I are prepared to serve you,” he declared with conviction.

As the campaign season gains momentum, all eyes are now on the upcoming September 16 elections, with voters eager to decide the direction Malawi should take next.
