Kasungu, Malawi – Alliance for Democracy (Aford) president Enoch Chihana has accused the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of being behind an incident in which his convoy was allegedly disrupted in Kasungu on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Chihana said the disruption occurred soon after his party had finished holding a political rally.
“Yesterday, as we were leaving the venue, we saw a Fortuner vehicle approaching from the front and blocking our way. The occupants got out of the vehicle and started confronting our security personnel. Fortunately, our team managed to control the situation until we moved forward,” said Chihana.

He added that some villagers later reported the incident to police, stressing that he strongly suspects MCP members were involved in the confrontation.
However, in a swift response, MCP spokesperson Jesse Kabwila dismissed the allegations, instead accusing Aford of being the ones who provoked the situation.
The incident adds to the rising political tensions in Kasungu and comes just months before the highly anticipated elections, where parties are intensifying campaign activities.
