Machinga, Malawi – Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Machinga South East, Fyness Magonjwa, has officially conceded defeat in the parliamentary elections held on Tuesday, marking the end of her tenure in the National Assembly.

According to unofficial results, Magonjwa lost to independent candidate Donnex Mpuzeni, who will now represent Machinga South East in Parliament.

In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Magonjwa described the campaign period as “hectic” and expressed her regret at not returning to Parliament for another five-year term. She urged her supporters to back her successor to ensure the continuity of local development initiatives she championed during her tenure.

“I entrust my successor to continue and advance the development initiatives we have started together,” Magonjwa said.

Despite her parliamentary loss, Magonjwa remained optimistic at the national level, expressing confidence in the anticipated victory of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Professor Peter Mutharika, whom she believes will be the next President of Malawi.

Magonjwa made history in 2019 as the youngest member of Parliament in that cohort, gaining recognition for her energetic leadership and dedication to her constituency.
