Peter Mutharika Hails Chakwera for Statesmanship, Calls for Unity After Election Victory

President-elect Peter Mutharika has expressed profound gratitude to Malawians following his victory in the September 16 elections, while praising outgoing President Lazarus Chakwera for graciously conceding defeat.

Mutharika described Chakwera’s acceptance of the results as a hallmark of true statesmanship, saying it set the tone for a peaceful transition of power. He also applauded the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), under the leadership of Justice Annabelle Mtalimanja, for managing the elections with professionalism and transparency.

“This victory is not for me or the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) alone, but for democracy in Malawi. The time for competition has ended, and now we must unite to address the real challenges facing our nation,” said Mutharika.
