The continued delay in swearing in Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has sparked serious concerns in Malawi, as reports emerge that government property is being smuggled out of the country into neighboring states such as Mozambique, Tanzania, and Zambia.
Smuggling and Sale of State Assets
Reliable sources indicate that trucks and vehicles loaded with state-owned goods are being diverted across borders where the property is allegedly hidden or sold. This development has raised alarm among citizens who fear that Malawi’s resources are being stripped away during this transition period.
MCP Members Under Scrutiny
There are growing accusations that members of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) are deeply involved in the movement of these assets. Eyewitnesses claim MCP operatives are using their political influence to cross borders unchecked, while some security officers allegedly turn a blind eye.
Role of Security Agencies Questioned
The role of the police and other security organs has come under sharp criticism. Instead of protecting government property, some officers are being accused of actively facilitating the distribution and smuggling of these resources. Citizens are warning the authorities that the truth will eventually come out.
Call for Immediate Action
Malawians are demanding urgent intervention to:
Stop the looting of government property during the transition.
Strengthen border controls to prevent further smuggling.
Hold accountable all officers and politicians involved in the illegal activities.
Public Warning
Concerned citizens have vowed to “expose everything” if authorities fail to act, stressing that the illegal sale of government property is a betrayal of the nation. They have warned that those found guilty will not escape public scrutiny.
