Lilongwe City Mayor, His Worship Peter Alex Banda, has challenged graduating students to become agents of change by adding value to their communities.

Banda made the remarks on 8 December 2025 at LUANAR’s Bunda Campus, where he attended the DPP Wing final year students’ function as Guest of Honour, representing National Coordinator Hon. Noel Lipipa.

The Mayor was accompanied by Hon. Lincoln Liwonde, Hon. Twamie Chimungu, Hon. Lizzie Ndomondo, and Hon. Kennie Kukada, adding prestige to the occasion.

Speaking to the students, Banda—who is currently the youngest mayor in the country at the age of 29—urged them to remain resilient, hardworking and practical, encouraging them to actively contribute to national development and to support the vision of His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Chairperson of the Bunda DPP Wing, Wongani Maluwa, called on fellow students to remain focused, disciplined and united. He also commended Mayor Banda for honouring the invitation despite his tight schedule and thanked the LUANAR management for nurturing students through both challenging and successful times.

The event was marked by celebrations, pride and joy, as students and staff came together to honour the achievements of the outgoing class, making the night a memorable one for the LUANAR community.
