Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) has dismissed social media reports claiming it plans to increase rentals for its houses by 40 percent, describing the allegations as false.
Acting MHC Chief Executive Officer Matthews Mwadzangati said the corporation has neither held a meeting nor issued a memo proposing such an increase. He stressed that the circulating claims are misleading and should be ignored.

Mwadzangati clarified that MHC only applies the standard 10 percent rent increase, which takes effect on the anniversary of a tenant’s lease. He added that any adjustment beyond this rate would require approval from the MHC Board.
