A concerned citizen of Malawi Engineer Vitu Kayira, has written an open letter to Malawi’s Justice Minister respectfully requesting him to provide clarity on the urgent commission of inquiry to be established regarding the plane crash that claimed the lives of former Vice President Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima and eight others, on 10th June, 2024 in the Chikangawa forest.

The tragic death of Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others, brought silence in Malawi as nobody including President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera had answers, all those who were speaking on this were being arrested and many Malawians are questioning in their hearts, why the arrests?

Even though the remains of Dr. Chilima and eight others, were buried in their respective districts, questions surrounding their tragic death and the missing of the Black Box have raised suspicions that the MCP was allegedly behind it.

Writing from his home village Namapanji in Chitipa- Wenya constituency, Engineer Kayira has respectfully requested the Minister of Justice to provide an update on the promised establishment of a new commission of inquiry on events surrounding Chilima’s death.

Kayira has reminded the DPP that it made the promise during its campaign trails commitment to the people of Malawi to launch such an inquiry but three months have gone since the DPP was ushered into power, there;s no of such inquiry saying the public is eagerly awaiting progress on this matter.

He said it is the wish of the Chilima family, the UYM Party, and the wider Malawian public looking for answers and closure saying it is imperative that the country need to move forward with transparency and accountability.

The citizen has respectfully requested the Justice Minister to provide clarity on the current status of the preparations for the Commission of Inquiry, if there have been any unforeseen challenges, what are they, and how is the Minister addressing them.

“If for any reason, the commission of inquiry will not proceed, it is crucial that the public is informed, we must avoid finger-pointing and focus on justice delivery for the victims and their families,” reads the writings of Engineer Vitu Kayira on the wall dated 8th December, 2025.

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has urged the DPP led government to appoint genuine activists such as Comrades Kalindo, Lyton Mangochi, Pastor Moses Shumba Bishop Kachenje and journalists such as Suleman Chitera, Jones Gadama, and Burnett Munthali, among others, to be members of the new Commission of inquiry to investigate circumstances surrounding Dr. Saulosi Chilima’s and eight others, tragic death.

Kamphangala has warned the DPP led government and President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika that failure to take on board these genuine activists and journalists as members, then, let there be no commission of inquiry to establish the truth.

He has expressed 100 percent trust and hope that Malawians will welcome the announcement of the new commission of inquiry that justice will now be seen further advising President Professor Mutharika that these genuine activists and journalists are enough to investigate and uncover the truth including the missing Black Box.

“President Professor Mutharika, free advice to you, for Dr. Chilima’s matter to reach closure, genuine activists and journalists will do the work and their report will be credible in the eyes of all that wants and are praying for justice to be seen in Chilima’s death,” said Kamphangala.
