As part of efforts toward sustainability and self-sufficiency, members of the Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Women Association, CWA, were today busy harvesting maize as a fundraising activity.Bishop Mchombo champions church-led economic empowerment through savings ministry

The exercise was organized to raise funds for the association’s retreat scheduled for September in Likuni.

Speaking to our reporter, Mrs. Roseby Chakana, a member, said the initiative was meant to reduce dependence, promote self-reliance, and improve their financial stability.Catholic Church celebrate jubilee year of development commission

“We are doing this because we do not want to beg. This is our mphakati and we need to support it,” said Mai Chakana.

Another member, Mai Binosi, who serves as an advisor to the women’s association, commended the CWA executive for introducing the initiative.

“This is what our parish wants — to be self-sufficient,” she said.

Mr. Gregory Kampeza, owner of the garden, praised the women for their hard work and urged other associations to emulate what the Holy Guardian Angels women are doing.

The Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Women Association is one of the active associations in the parish. The mphakati was established in 2025 and is already regarded as one of the most reliable in the area.
