Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation Joseph Mathyola Mwanamvekha has expressed confidence that Malawi will continue receiving strong support from international development partners despite reports that some donor countries are reviewing or reducing aid commitments to parts of Africa.

Speaking as Guest of Honour during the launch of the Tiyende Limodzi Endowment Fund, an initiative of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe, Mwanamvekha reassured Malawians that the country remains a trusted partner among the international community and should not be alarmed by changes in aid policies announced by some nations.Mwanamvekha Secures $51 Million in Single Foreign Trip as Malawians Praise Results-Oriented Leadership

The Finance Minister said while a few development partners have indicated plans to reduce assistance to the African continent, several others have continued to increase their support to Malawi through investments in strategic sectors that are vital for economic growth and national development.

He noted that the government’s commitment to sound economic management, fiscal discipline and development reforms continues to strengthen confidence among international partners.

“There is no need for Malawians to panic. Although some donor countries are adjusting their funding priorities, others have expanded their support to Malawi in key sectors that are important for our country’s development,” Mwanamvekha said.APM Leadership Revitalising the Economy, Says Mwanamvekha

The minister said government remains committed to working closely with development partners, the private sector, faith-based organisations and civil society to accelerate economic recovery, create jobs and improve livelihoods.

Mwanamvekha also applauded the Catholic Church for its long-standing contribution to Malawi’s socio-economic development, describing the Church as one of government’s most reliable partners in delivering essential services to communities.

He said the Catholic Church has consistently invested in quality education, accessible healthcare, community development programmes and initiatives that uplift vulnerable households across the country.

The Finance Minister described the launch of the Tiyende Limodzi Endowment Fund as a significant milestone that demonstrates how faith-based institutions can contribute to sustainable national development through locally driven initiatives.

He encouraged individuals, businesses, development partners and well-wishers to support the endowment fund, saying such initiatives promote self-reliance while providing long-term resources for social and development programmes.

Mwanamvekha emphasised that achieving Malawi’s development aspirations requires strong partnerships between government, religious institutions, development partners and the private sector.
