Why Twin Girls Hostel Project Stalls? Queries MP

Member of Parliament for Mchinji South, Agnes Mkusa Nkhoma has asked Mchinji district council to explain to her constituents why the a twin girls hostel project at Kabzala CDSS has stalled.

Nkhoma says the community members have been accusing her of embezzling K179 millon meant for the twin girls hostel abandoned three years ago.

She said despite clearing herself from the allegations, her constituents are having none of it.

The councils’ Director of Public Works (DPW) Ellis Tembo has confirmed the development stating that the contractor abandoned the project after he was already paid.

“We took him to court after he abandoned the construction site. We reported him to the National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) for breach of contract and misconduct. We also terminated the contract,” said Tembo.

He however, said the project will be completed this year using the 2023-2024 Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) funding. However, Nkhoma has asked for accountability for the previous funds already paid to the contractor.
