In a significant move aimed at enhancing governance and transparency, Richard Chimwendo Banda, the senior official of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), announced the dissolution of the Village Development Committees (VDC) and Area Development Committees (ADC) in the Lunzu area. Speaking to party members and local leaders, Chimwendo Banda emphasized the need for development committees that are effective and accountable. He stated, “The government seeks development committees that will collaborate effectively with state initiatives rather than merely leveraging their positions to influence the distribution of resources.” This statement reflects ongoing concerns about the misuse of committee roles, which have reportedly been used to manipulate the allocation of aid and resources to favor select individuals.
