President Lazarus Chakwera has called on all Malawians of voting age to participate in large numbers in the ongoing voter registration exercise, which commenced today in various parts of the country. The president emphasized that this is a crucial opportunity for citizens to exercise their democratic right and that even those who are undecided about candidates should register to avoid future regret.
In a televised address on the state broadcaster, Dr. Chakwera urged political parties, traditional chiefs, and religious leaders to play an active role in encouraging their followers to take part in the registration process. “Even if you haven’t yet decided on which candidate to vote for, register now. You may regret later if you miss this registration opportunity,” Chakwera advised.
The president stressed the importance of civic engagement in strengthening democracy and expressed his hope that all eligible citizens would seize this chance to make their voices heard in the 2025 General Elections.
Chakwera’s appeal comes as Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) continues the voter registration exercise across the nation, aiming to prepare a comprehensive voters’ roll for the upcoming elections. The process will ensure that Malawians have the chance to elect their preferred leaders in the presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections.
